Artistic Staff
Dr. John Buehler, Artistic Director
The former conductor of the Cannon Beach Chorus, Dr. John Buehler, is also the former director of Choral Studies and Chairman of the Department of Music at Baker University and is now Professor Emeritus of Music.
Buehler earned degrees in music education and choral conducting from Fort Hays State University, Wichita State University, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
He has been a guest conductor for numerous choirs from middle school groups to adult professional choirs. In December 2024, Buehler was the guest conductor for the Messiah Choir at McMinnville First Presbyterian Church.
Dr. Buehler was the Chancel Choir Director at Baldwin City First United Methodist Church for twenty years and is active nationally as a church choral clinician. Dr. Buehler served OR American Choral Director’s Association as the R&R Chair for Community Choirs and for Lifelong Music until 2023.
Dr. Buehler currently directs the Hillside Choir, an adult community chorus in McMinnville, OR.
Dr. Susan Buehler is a former member of the music/voice faculty at Baker University in Baldwin City, KS and is Professor Emeritus of Music and recipient of the Baker University Trustee medallion and Exemplary Teaching award. While teaching at Baker, Susan served as the collaborative pianist for the Choral Department and faculty and student recitals. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Fort Hays State University and Master and Doctoral degrees in vocal performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music. She has been the pianist for numerous individuals, choirs, and events and has maintained her voice and piano studio Music Lasts A Lifetime throughout her career.
